William Armstrong Streeter Jr. (Bill) Obituary
Kingwood, Texas - KINGWOOD, Texas - William (Bill) Armstrong Streeter, Jr., 96, died April 22, 2026, in Kingwood, TX. He was born in Terre Haute, IN, on Feb. 23, 1930, to William Armstrong Streeter and Dorothy Bigalow Davis Streeter and resided in Terre Haute for almost 80 years.
Bill graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute in 1947 and attended Indiana State Teachers College for a year before joining the U.S. Navy. He served four years on the USS New destroyer as a yeoman and was honorably discharged in 1952. Returning to his home state, Bill attended Indiana University in Bloomington and majored in business. He was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity and house president. Bill graduated in 1955 with a BS degree in business.
He returned to Terre Haute and joined the Streeter Harvey Insurance Agency before moving to Indianapolis to become an underwriter with Wabash Fire and Casualty Insurance Co. Bill then joined General Accident Insurance Co. as a field representative before returning to Terre Haute to join the David R. Bronson Insurance Agency.
Bill succeeded Mr. Bronson in the agency and established the Wm A Streeter Insurance Agency where he remained until retirement.
He built his agency at a time when agents were full-service practitioners, who met personally with clients both large and small. With his ready smile and warm handshake, Bill became a familiar figure around town. Because the Streeter agency was a trusted Terre Haute firm, it managed personal and commercial insurance for a wide range of clients. Among those were Hulman businesses and properties, including the Indianapolis 500 Motor Speedway, which Bill insured for more than 50 years.
Bill is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marilyn (Lynn) McElroy Streeter; daughters Margaret (Meg) Wysatta (spouse Michael Wysatta) of Kingwood and Elizabeth (Beth) Streeter of Kingwood; and son William (Bill) Streeter III (spouse Kimberly "Kim" Marshall Streeter) of Terre Haute. His grandchildren are William (Will) Wysatta (spouse Liz Oliver Wysatta) of Kingwood, Megan Streeter Meier (spouse Ben Meier) of Terre Haute, and Katherine (Katie) Streeter Baker (spouse John Baker) of Memphis, IN. His great-grandchildren are Maxwell (Max) and Cecilia (CeCe) Wysatta of Kingwood.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ann Streeter Wilms. Surviving are his niece Janet (Jan) Wilms Maclean of Wilmington, NC; and nephews Dave Wilms of Libertyville, IL, and Carl Wilms of Rocky Face, GA.; and sister-in-law Phyllis Bowen of LaGrange, KY.
Community service was always important to Bill. He supported several organizations including the Kiwanis Club and served as its president. For decades, the Aero Club events were favorite days on the calendar. Bill and Lynn enjoyed the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra performances and co-chaired several fundraising events. Every 10 years, he gathered his committee for Wiley '47 class reunions, frequently hosting events at the family home. In 2022, he flew to Terre Haute to attend the 75th reunion of Wiley '47.
Bill was an active member of St. Stephen Episcopal Church in Terre Haute for most of his life and served in many capacities from Sunday School teacher to Senior Warden both locally as well as positions in the Diocese.
In recent years, Bill's greatest joy was with his grandchildren and especially, his great-grandchildren. His constant companion was his beloved dog, Molly. Bill told her often she was the smartest and the best dog he ever had. After moving to Texas in his later years, Bill regularly stayed connected by phone with friends and family back home in Indiana.
Bill touched the lives of all who knew him. We cherished his kindness, generosity, compassion, sense of humor and unwavering spirit. His legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire us, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
