William Lee Porter
TERRE HAUTE - William Lee Porter, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, November 28th, 2019 in his residence. Bill was born in Terre Haute on September 15, 1938 to James W. Porter and Olive Johnson Porter.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 101st Airborne. He was a member of Pimento Masonic Lodge and the Zorah Shrine Valley of Terre Haute. I have so many memories of visiting Aunt Carolyn & Uncle Bill along with my two cousins Karie Porter Pullum, and Jamie Porter when they lived in Farmersburg. Karie and I had a blast riding up and down the hills on one motorcycle at the side of their home. I'm so thankful that as Mike and I were leaving Mom's apartment that she decided at the last minute to go down and see Uncle Bill. I consider it a blessing that I was able to see Uncle Bill and talk to him a few hours before he passed. In my heart I think he heard me, even though most of the visit his eyes were shut. I do believe for a short time when I talked to him, that his eyes were opened "just a very tiny bit" and he grabbed for my... hand. Uncle Bill thought a lot of my husband Mike, whenever Mike would ask him if we could pray with him, he never turned Mike down. I was remember Uncle Bill as a character who loved life and animals.Read more
