TERRE HAUTE - Valerie Jane Yahn, 76, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 14, 1945, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Clarence and Maxine (Moravek) McFarland.

Valerie is survived by her husband of 41 years, Larry Yahn of Terre Haute; children, Tracy Hesling (Chas), Darren Batterson (Lisa), Travis Batterson, and Erin Murphy (Frankie); siblings, Dennis McFarland, Linda Kaye Parsons, John David McFarland, and Gary "Bill" McFarland; sister-in-law, Marie Yahn; special cousin, Mary Lynne Marlay; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Vernalda Yahn; father-in-law, Henry Yahn; brother, Paul McFarland; sister, Nancy Chickering; brother-in-law, Jay Chickering; sister-in-law, Esther Barcus; and grandson, Stephen Tibbals.

Valerie was a nurse at Ottumwa Regional Hospital, Wapello County Public Health Nursing, and most recently at Union Hospital. She was a 1963 graduate of Cardinal High School and the IHCC Nursing Program in 1980. Valerie was a member of Agency United Methodist Church.

In her spare time, Valerie enjoyed reading, crocheting, and baking. She loved to go to basketball games and watch Rex baseball. She could always be found cheering on her grandchildren during their sporting events. Most of all, Valerie cherished the time she spent with her family.

Per her wishes, cremation was chosen and a celebration of life will be held in her home state of Iowa at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mayo Clinic or Cure P.S.P. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at:
