Thomas Wayne Schaffer
TERRE HAUTE - Thomas Wayne Schaffer, 58, of Terre Haute passed away at his home.
He was born on September 21, 1966, in Terre Haute to Charles Schaffer, Jr. and Judith Heyen Schaffer. Tom was a 1984 graduate of Terre Haute South High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana State University.
Tom was a radio commentator for several local radio stations including WBOW. He went by Tommy Walker or Tom Cat on the radio. Tom also worked as an assistant kitchen manager at Signature Health and Southwood nursing homes. He would also play the piano for the residents, and they loved it. Tom was spontaneously witty, very intelligent, and never met a stranger. He loved people and serving the public. His most recent job was as a cashier at Walmart. There he developed great relationships with his coworkers and has his favorite customers. Tom was adventurous at heart, and he loved riding roller coasters. His larger-than-life personality will be missed by so many.
Tom is survived by his parents, Charlie and Judy Schaffer, sister Lori A. Ormsby (Chuck), nieces Jocelyn Callahan (Sean) and Allison Ormsby, aunt Sue and uncle Dale Hale, several cousins, and close friends Kim, John, and Hennie Becking, and Benny Prouse. Family serving as pallbearers are David R. Shaffer, Jr., Bradley K. Shaffer, Steven M. Shaffer, Shawn L. Schaffer, Charles D. Ormsby, Larry Atkinson, Sr. and honorary pallbearer Hennie Becking. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Thomas and Doris Conklin-Heyen, paternal grandparents Charles W. Schaffer, Sr. and Rose W. Crowley Schaffer, and uncles David R. Shaffer and Harry B. Schaffer.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Service will begin at the funeral home on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with Father Robert Showers officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations of remembrance may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be made to:

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
