Theresa Clare Carr

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS - Sister Theresa Clare Carr died on May 5, 2025, in Mother Theodore Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was born on Dec. 20, 1931 in Indianapolis to John and Bridget McCahill Carr and was baptized Clare.
She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Jan. 8, 1950 and professed Final Vows Aug. 15, 1957. She earned a bachelor's degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master's degree from Indiana University.
Of her 75 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered as teacher for 50 years in schools in Indiana, Illinois, and California. Having retired from full-time teaching in 2002, she remained in Indianapolis for the next 15 years as a catechist and substitute teacher. She returned to the Motherhouse in 2017 and volunteered both on campus and in the West Terre Haute ministries of Providence Food Pantry and Helping Hands. Beginning in 2020, she dedicated herself totally to the ministry of prayer.
Sister Theresa Clare was loving, gracious, and welcoming to all she met. Her beautiful smile and a gentle manner put anyone who met her at ease. An outstanding teacher, she gave herself to her students with generosity, creativity and kindness.
Sister Theresa Clare is survived by three brothers, Edward Carr and Cornelius (Bud) Carr, both of Indianapolis, and Michael Carr of Grand Blanc, MI; and one sister, Catherine Warren of Franklin, IN. She is preceded in death by three brothers, John Carr, Francis Carr, and James Carr; and four sisters, Mary Casler, Theresa Carr, Jo Belyea and Susan Fox.
The wake is on Wednesday, May 7, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception with the Wake Service at 4:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial is on Thursday, May 8, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Terry Johnson presiding. Burial is in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Providence, 1 Sisters of Providence, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, IN 47876.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
