Terre Haute, IN - Steven David Riggs, 79, of Terre Haute passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026. He was born on April 29, 1947, to Franklin J. Riggs and Rosella Jones Riggs. Steven was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed woodworking and was an outdoorsman. He and Janie are former members of Mt. Pleasant Church. Steven was an electronics master and could fix anything. He had a passion for geology and collecting various stones and geodes. He knew something about everything and kept his mind sharp by reading math textbooks constantly. Steven had a playful and vivacious sense of humor. His family was often the target of hilarious pranks. His laughter was contagious. Steven was a wonderful father to his two girls. He always put them first and made sure they were taken care of, and he could brighten the hardest days. He will be missed deeply. He was the wind beneath our wings and truly our hero.

Steven is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janie Riggs, daughters Shelly James and Gina Hauersperger (Tony), grandchildren Aubree Reed (Brayton), Nathan James, Koltan Hauersperger (Kayla), and Rainnah Hauersperger, a great grand baby on the way, brother Frank Riggs (Melva), sister Diana Treon, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Service will begin at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made to:
