Shelva Jean Warner (Butch) Obituary

Terre Haute, Indiana - TERRE HAUTE - Shelva Jean Warner, "Butch," 88, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on August 15, 2025.

She was born on July 12, 1937, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Frank Trout and Leolia (Richter) Trout.

She worked for the Terre Haute City Police Department for 21 years. She began her career as a Meter Maid and later became a Police Matron. She also served on the Merit Board with the Terre Haute City Police Department and the Terre Haute City Fire Department. Butch also served on the Terre Haute City Council and as a Committeeman for the Democratic Precinct.

Beyond being a public servant, Butch was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known for ability to bake, oftentimes showing up with her famous Italian Cream Cake and Texas Sheet Cake. These were just a few of her favorites to make.

She is survived by her husband George Warner; daughters Candis Nuttall and Teresa Smith; grandchildren Gary Chaney, Kris Chaney, Kari Smith, Ashley Hensen, Katie Kidwell, Jessie Armitage, and Justin Nuttall; and great-grandchildren Atticus Smith and Connor Armitage.

Butch was preceded in death by her parents; son William Zamberini; daughter Sherry Kidwell; and sisters Carolene Bilyeu and Genevieve Pettyjohn.

Memorial services will be on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 1:00p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home with honors given by the Terre Haute City Police Honor Guard. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, from 11:00a.m. until service time. In honoring her wishes, cremation has been chosen.
