Terre Haute, Indiana - BATAVIA, Ohio - Sheila "Zippy" Kay Thiel (Kirkham), 80, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, surrounded by family in Batavia, Ohio.

Sheila was born March 25, 1945 to Wilmer and Martina Kirkham in Terre Haute, Indiana. She graduated from Schulte High School in 1963. She went on to work for Pepsi Co. where she met her future husband Lawrence Thiel. Sheila soon became a homemaker while she and Lawrence raised their three children. She would later work at the Information Booth at Honey Creek Mall.

Sheila was a member of the Young Men's Club and the Marine Corps League as well as a devoted member of St. Benedict Church. She also loved to volunteer at the soup kitchen at St. Ben's.

Sheila is survived by her children Martina McNamara (Thomas), Gregory Thiel (Shelly), and Matthew Thiel (Sarah); and grandchildren Jacob, Payton (Paige), Hunter, Dillon, Landon, and Kylee; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded by her parents, her beloved husband of 48 years Larry, and her brother Thomas Kirkham.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation or buy a round for your local VFW or Marine Corps League.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Sheila on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at VFW Post 6574 in West Terre Haute from 2-5 PM. A Mass will be held in Sheila's honor at St. Benedict Church in Terre Haute on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 12:05 PM. She will then be laid to rest next to her husband in Roselawn Memorial Park.
