Terre Haute, Indiana - Scott Anthony Culp (55 years old) passed away unexpectedly in his home in Kentucky on Sunday, April 20th, 2025.
Scott was born on November 8th, 1969 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles "Chuck" Culp, aunt Margo Schwab, and uncle Ken Schwab. He is survived by his wife Stephanie; his children Nicholas (Alicia), Jacob (Dani), Brandon (Madeline), and Elizabeth (Jalen); his first grandchild Myles Owens; his mother Sandra "Sandy"; his sister and brother-in-law Carrie and Ken Wygle; his nieces Sarah (Matt) Moore and Mary Wygle; his aunts and uncles Debbie Werner, Marcia and Ed BonDurant, Marilyn and Jim Meier, and Jim and Linda Culp; his many cousins; co-parents Howard Fogel and the Green family; and his dogs (Daisy, Violet, Scooby, and Layla) and cats (Pepper and Reggie).
Scott attended the University of Louisville and Indiana State University. He also played soccer at Louisville and coached club soccer at ISU. Scott excelled in a variety of careers, including as a home healthcare representative and a Harley-Davidson salesman. In each job, he found a way to make an impact on the people involved, like by wearing costumes and running bingo for retirement homes.
Scott thoroughly enjoyed time spent with family, boating, riding his motorcycle, watching sports (notably football, soccer, and racing), games of all sorts (especially backgammon), birdwatching, gaming with his kids, and travel. He was a billiards and backgammon tournament champion and Red Bull Soapbox Race participant. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs (before it was cool). Scott enjoyed listening to music by his favorite artist Walker Hayes and attended multiple concerts with his wife and family. On most evenings, you could find Scott nestled at his usual table at Charlie's Pub in Terre Haute, where he was equal parts menace and beloved friend. The staff at Charlie's meant a great deal to him.
He took great pride in the activities of his children. He coached countless youth soccer teams and led a Boy Scouts troop for his kids and many others. He loved projects, especially those that supported his children, including building sets for Terre Haute Children's Theatre shows, a halfpipe for skateboarding in the yard, and Pinewood Derby cars. He attended nearly every football game at DePauw University when his daughter was a cheerleader.
Scott was a friend to all who knew him. He loved to bring others along with him in his jokes and tricks. With his unparalleled ability to tell stories, Scott could keep everyone entertained and engaged for hours. The consummate prankster, Scott was always looking for a (mostly) harmless opportunity for a joke.
Above all else, Scott found the most joy in his time with his family. He appreciated the time he got to spend with each of his children during their lives, such as moving to new cities and graduating from college. Scott was especially excited about the birth of his first grandson, officially making him Grandpa Zippy. He found his happy place in the home he built with his wife by Kentucky Lake. He never missed a year of the Culp-Brinker family reunion trip to Kentucky Lake to see his family. Scott went further, though, to take the time to keep in touch with every family member throughout the year.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Vigo County Youth Soccer Association (vcysa.org) or to an animal shelter of your choice.
