Rockville, Indiana - ROCKVILLE - Rowena Joan Overpeck (pronounced Jo Ann), 94, of Rockville, Indiana, passed away at 3:10 pm Monday, October 7, 2019, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.

She was a retired schoolteacher, teaching at Bridgeton, Rosedale and Riverton Parke Schools for 27½ years, retiring in June of 1987.

She was born August 1, 1925, in Brazil, Indiana, to the late Hugh W. Knoll and Ruth Mae Smith Knoll. Her husband of 57 years, Ivan Paul "Peck" Overpeck, whom she married March 20, 1948, in Bloomington, passed away July 20, 2005.

Survivors include one son, Steven P. Overpeck of Rockville; one daughter, Melinda (Doug) Alvey of Greenfield; and two lifelong childhood friends, Beverly Hawkins and Lois Reel.

She was a graduate of Bridgeton High School, attended Indiana University, and received her A.B. and M.S. degree in education from Indiana State University. She was licensed to teach mathematics, science, chemistry, biology and health, teaching high school math her entire career. She was a member of Estabrook chapter Daughters of the Revolution, Rockville Women's Club, Parke-Vermillion and Indiana State Retired Teachers Associations, Civil War Round Table of West Central Indiana, lifetime member of Parke County Historical Society, and a charter member and past president of the Covered Bridge Art Association. She helped organize and volunteered with the Parke Adult Tutoring Service. She enjoyed oil painting and genealogy, and loved all animals, especially her cats.

Services will be 3:00 pm Monday, October 14, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville. Visitation is from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm Monday at Gooch Funeral Home.
