Richard A. Poorman Obituary

Richard A. Poorman, 85, of Marshall, IL passed away at 2:20 AM Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in the Gibson Family Center For Hospice Care at Terre Haute, IN. His 45-year career with Hulman & Co. ended with him being in charge of the Distribution Dept. of Clabber Girl.

He was born Jan. 21, 1939 at Marshall, IL, the son of Henry and Reba Campbell Poorman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Brown and Dorothy Auler.

He married Carolyn Sue Williams on Sept. 2, 1961 at New Goshen, IN and she survives. Also surviving are two children, Debbie (Barry) Leitch and Tony Poorman, both of Marshall; two grandchildren, Chad Leitch and Katie Leitch; and several nieces, nephews and one great-niece.

He served this nation in the U.S. Army and was a member of Clark County Post #90 of the American Legion. Dick served as a volunteer fireman for the Marshall Fire Dept. for 28 years and served on the Marshall Fire and Ambulance District as a commissioner for several years. He coached Little League Baseball for many years and had also been the announcer for Marshall High School football.

Dick was also a member, Past Chancellor and Commander of the Marshall Knights of Pythias Lodge. He was a true and loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and U of I.

Visitation will be 12 Noon to 2:00 PM Friday at Pearce Funeral Home with a service in honor of his life at 2:00 PM with Pastor Tim Duke officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Marshall Cemetery.
