Westville, IN - WESTVILLE - Richard L. Fagg, aged 85, passed away on March 30, 2026 at his home in Westville, IN. He was born on May 6, 1940 to Richard and Marie (Funkhouser) Fagg in Shirkieville, IN who both precede him in death. On February 25, 1961 he married Mauvie Green in West Terre Haute, IN. Mauvie was the love of his life and they were married for 65 years. Surviving Richard are: Children, Laura (Larry) Lehner of Granger, Teresa "Terri" Newhard of Valparaiso, and Rick Fagg of Westville; Grandchildren, Kyle Newhard, Morgan (Chris) Miller, Christopher (Kaile Galka) Newhard, Leslie Lehner, and Katie Fagg; Great-Grandson Lane Miller; Honorary Grandchildren Mark Price, Sam Robinson, and Austin Tolson; Honorary Great-Grandchildren Sammy Robinson, Gage Price, Wyatt Vitale, Michaela Whitener, Nylah Robinson, Jaylen Robinson, Lyla Vitale-Price, and Everleigh Vitale-Price; Siblings Almary Freeman and Gary Fagg; Sisters-in-Law Kathie Fagg, Cathy Sue Green and Brothers-in-Law Mike (Ruth) Woods, Brian Green and Homer Moore; as well as many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his Daughter-in-Law Lori Fagg and Son-in-Law Michael Newhard. Richard is preceded in death by his Brothers Wilford and Jim Fagg, Brother-in-Law Fred Freeman, Sisters-in-Law Rosalie Fagg, Elee Fagg, and Mary Hilligoss. Richard was a retired teacher who taught at Westville Community Schools as an educator and principal for 35 years. He was very dedicated to his students. Richard was an avid mushroom hunter, diehard fan of the Cubs, Bears, and IU Basketball; he loved woodworking, traveling, and gardening. Richard graduated from Concannon High School in Terre Haute and earned a BS and MS degree from Indiana State University. He was a member of many organizations including the Lions Club, Westville Historical Society, Laporte County Salvation Army, Door Village United Methodist Church, Westville Pumpkin Festival Committee, and the Westville Summer League baseball club. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026 from 3-7PM at Newhard Funeral Home in Westville, IN. A funeral service will be Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Door Village United Methodist Church at 11:00AM with a visitation for an hour prior. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the RLF Scholarship Fund. At Richard's request no suits, ties, or formal wear should be worn to the services.
