Clay City, Indiana - CLAY CITY - Richard Lee Burger, 88, passed away August 6, 2025 surrounded by his family.

He was born August 5, 1937 in Brazil to the late Harley and Ethel (Neal) Burger.

Richard graduated from Clay City High School in 1955. On Christmas day in 1955, Richard married his high school sweetheart, Judy Harrison.

Richard worked as a farmer his entire life. He enjoyed spraying the fields and driving grain trucks. He was on the Clay County Council for 28 years.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Vigo 29, as well as the Terre Haute Scottish Rite. Richard was a lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking. Richard was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Judy; two sons, Rick Burger (Karen) and Dave Burger (Pam); six grandchildren, Jennifer Herrmann (Jeremy), Jessica Bersch (Fritz), Jamie Faulk (Jeremiah), Jeremy Burger (Kali), Brenton Burger (Lexie), and Trevor Burger; and twelve great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Monday, August 11 from 11 A.M.-1 P.M. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. 8th Street in Clay City. A Masonic Service will begin a 1 P.M. followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastor Brian Holt. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
