Rex Dean Tucker Obituary

Rex Dean Tucker, 86, of Knightsville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 18, 2018. He was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Brazil, to the late Orville E. Tucker and Mary L. (DeBruler) Tucker.

Rex attended Brazil High School with the class of 1951 until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951. He did three tours in Korea on the USS Hopewell DD681, where he received several accommodations and was honorably discharged in 1954.

On July 29, 1967, Rex married the love of his life, Marilyn C. Harpold. Rex and Marilyn enjoyed going on long trips out west. Rex enjoyed cutting his grass, going to church, working in his woodshop and setting up for flea markets to sell the things he made.

During Rex's life he worked at JI Case, Alcan, Wilson Tech, and retired from the Indiana Department of Corrections Putnamville Facility in 1994. He also was a member and attended the Otter Creek Christian Church in Brazil.

Rex was known as a devout Chicago Cubs baseball fan however his biggest pride and joy was watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participating in sporting events, dance, and band contests in many locations.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark A. Tucker; a granddaughter, Michele L. Tucker; a great-granddaughter, Emmarae Kunkel; a great-grandson, Brentley J. Vandivier; as well as four brothers, Robert, William, James, and Larry Tucker.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons, Larry and Suzanne Tucker and James (Jim) and Tonia Tucker of Brazil; daughters, Jennie and Brad Vandivier, Paris, Ill., and Rhonda and Fred Clark, Terre Haute; 16 grandchildren, Ashley (Michael) Kester, Erika Tucker, Krystal Raught, Natalie (Josh) Isham-Dean, Evan Tucker, Jamie (Jason) Davis, Kensey Kunkel, SanDee (Gary) DeHeer, Randy (Teresa) Kunkel, Jason (Jessica) Vandivier, Justin (Jacki) Vandivier, Jorden (Kelsie) Vandivier, Andrea (John Robert) Clark, Lindsay (Dustin) Neidhamer and Joseph Clark; 33 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack (Suzie) Tucker; brothers-in-laws, Marion (Gail), Ansil (Donna) and Jim (Carol) Harpold; and several nieces and nephews.

Rex's family wishes to send a special thank you to Roudebush V.A. Medical Center and to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley, especially to his nurse, Debbie, for their care and compassion to the entire family.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Moore Funeral Home, in Brazil, with Pastors Ansil Harpold and Steve Brattain officiating and burial with military honors to follow at Clearview Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
