Pamela (Eckerle) McConnell Obituary

Pamela (Eckerle) McConnell, age 62, passed away at 3 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2016, in Union Hospital. She was born in Jasper, Ind., to Dolores and Karl Eckerle, and graduated from Jasper High School, class of 1972. She attended ISU for two years before being diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease and a subsequent relapse two years later, which resulted in a decades-long series of debilitating complications.

Survivors include her husband, Reggie, of 41 years, whom she married in 1975; her mother, Dolores; three sisters, Diana Eckerle, June (Bryan) Hochgesang and Angela (Brian) Pfaff; and two brothers, Steve Eckerle and Scott Eckerele (Roxane), all of Jasper. Also surviving are her beloved parents-in-law, Clyde and Loretta Hawkins of Terre Haute, and Evonne McConnell of North Baltimore, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Traci Sutton of Terre Haute and Barbara (Bob) Willhite of Loogootee; 10 nieces; eight nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Karl; and a brother, Kelly.

Pam never let her illness define her. She did volunteer work at Martin Luther Group Homes and Mosiac for over 30 years, as her health allowed, and befriended many of the residents over the years.

She was a follower of her Savior, Jesus Christ, was saved by His mercy and grace, and sustained through her struggles by His Word and His love.

It is at Pam's request that no service be held. Direct cremation is scheduled. It is her wish that family and friends would remember her privately in their thoughts and prayers, and celebrate her going home. Simple Cremations is assisting with arrangements.
