Norris E. Thompson Obituary

Norris E. Thompson, 87, of Carbon, passed away at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at his residence. He was born Oct. 19, 1930, in Mishawaka, to the late James Thompson and Marie Ames Thompson.

He was active with construction and building projects, a farmer and a rural mail carrier with the Carbon Post Office. He also drove a school bus for Southwest Parke Community School Corporation.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Joanne Jackman Thompson, whom he married June 22, 1950, in Chillicothe, Ohio; one daughter, Linda (David) Williams of Rosedale; son-in-law, Jack Hooker of Carbon; sister, Wilma Nicoson of Brazil; four grandchildren, Carrie (Jason) Routhier, Randy (Shelly) Williams, Sarah (Jake) Jones and Brandy (Stoney) Fisher; and eight great-grandchildren, Dahlia Routhier, Amelia Routhier, Finnegan Jones, Molly Jones, Nora Fisher, Haddie Fisher, Waylon Fisher and Kade Williams.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sheila Marie Thompson, April of 1958, and daughter, Diane Hooker on Aug. 25, 2015; and a sister, Betty Smith.

He was a 1949 graduate of Bridgeton High School.He served in the Army during the Korean War stationed in Texas. He was a member of the Mansfield Bible Church and Calvary Baptist Church in Brazil. He also attended McKinley Hills Church of Christ in Brazil.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, 287 N. Main Street, Rosedale, with the Rev. Perry Mager officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Run Cemetery in Bridgeton. Visitation is 12 noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials should friends so desire, may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 1212 S.
