Michael J. Overpeck, 73, of Dana, died at 11:47 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at Clinton Gardens. He was born Jan. 24, 1943, in Terre Haute, to the late Raymond Overpeck and Bertha Switzer Overpeck.

He was a 1962 graduate of Dana High School. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1964 serving two years in Vietnam. He worked in the family business, Overpeck Hardware, Appliances and Culligan Water in Dana until 1975. He retired from Hercules and AET in 2008. He was a member of the Dana First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family. He especially enjoyed taking his granddaughters fishing in Kentucky on Barkley Lake.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Shirley Griffin Overpeck, whom he married July 5, 1970, in Clinton; together they raised two children, Valerie (Matt) Crouch and Darrin (Jennifer) Overpeck; grandchildren, Kayla (James Benson) Crouch, Karlie (Seth Dickey) Crouch, Kloe Crouch, Kallie Crouch, Shelby Overpeck and Jaxson Overpeck; one great-granddaughter, Avery Benson; one brother, Dennis Overpeck; three sisters-in-law, Cheryl Overpeck, Carol Thomas and Sandra Gilbert; one brother-in-law, Jack Griffin Jr.; two nephews, Kelcey Overpeck and Trey Thomas; two nieces, Brooke (Brad) Feaster and Gayle Norman; and many aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Phillip Overpeck; in-laws, Jack and Mary Griffin; and several uncles.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home, 225 N. Maple Street, Dana, with Pastor Marc Loveland officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Bono Cemetery, Dana. Visitation is from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
