Brazil, Indiana - Mayme R. Johnson-Cox, 88 of Brazil, passed away from this life into the loving presence of her Savior, February 9, 2026, at Hutsonwood at Brazil. She was born April 7, 1937, in Putnam County, the daughter of Roy Gerber and Ruth Lucas Gerber. She graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1955. She had attended Wesley Chapel and Harmony United Methodist Churches in the past.
Mayme found joy in music, especially Elvis and she even had a visit to Graceland. She also enjoyed Karaoke and had taught herself and her granddaughter to play her keyboard instrument. She was a creative lady with her clothes and had a talent for oil painting at one time in her life. She created beautiful quilts, and she wrote many poetry selections. Her love of fashion ran deep with the use of hats with colorful flowers, ribbon, or bows, for her ensemble. She loved adding unique pins, rings, and other jewelry pieces to add to her outfit.
As a young bride, Mayme was married to Donald Johnson on June 28, 1953. Together they raised their family in Clay County. He passed away on June 27, 2005.
Later in her life, she married James R. Cox, Sr. on November 23, 2008, he also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua Lee Casey, her siblings, James Gerber, John Gerber, Harold Gerber, Ted Gerber, Virginia Church, and Mary Elmore.
Mayme is survived by her children, Michael Lee Johnson and wife, Gemma of Galveston TX and Brazil, Sheila Ter Meer and Pamela S. Johnson both of Brazil; grandchildren, Amy Jo Fideli (Baycan), April Cahalan (Tim), Alyssa Day (Andy), Amber Kroner (Peter IV), Jason Evans (Jennifer), John B. "Deuce" Gerrard II (fiancé Kayla Frazier), Joel "Adam" Ter Meer II, Mabry Anna Ter Meer (fiancé Keanno Cook), and May-gan Okulovich (Tyler); 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.
Services will be held on Monday, February 16th at 1:00 at the Lawson-Miller Chapel with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating. Burial will follow at Croy's Creek Cemetery, Putnam County. Visitation will be from 11-1. Post a note of condolence at www.lawson-millerchapel.com
