Terre Haute, IN - TERRE HAUTE - Mary Darlene Hogue, affectionately known by many as "Mare Mare," passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at Signature Healthcare in Terre Haute, Indiana, just one week shy of her 64th birthday.

Born on June 25, 1961, Mary was a lifelong Christian who loved Jesus with all her heart.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, James Edward "Doc" Hogue; her mother, June Isabell Elkins; her stepfather, James Lee Elkins; her brother, James Edward "Jimmy" Hogue; and her sisters, Cornelia Marie "Tykie" Brenton and Debra Kay "Debbie" Baker.

She is survived by her sister, June Ann Theisz; her brother, Darren Lee Elkins; and many nieces, nephews, and other loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.

Although Mary never had children of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews with a fierce and tender heart, always treating them as her own. Despite having very limited financial means, she found joy in giving - never showing up without a favorite candy or snack for the babies.

Mary never met a stranger. With a gift for conversation and an open heart, she made friends wherever she went. Those who knew her will never forget her mischievous giggle - the one that would follow a playful tease or lighthearted prank, a giggle that let you know she had succeeded in making you laugh or roll your eyes.

She was deeply loved, and her warmth, humor, and kindness will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends once finalized.
