Brazil, Indiana - BRAZIL - Mary Kathryn Deakins, 93, passed away December 24, 2025. Mary was born to the late George B. and Gladys (Lybarger) Dempsey on April 4, 1932 in Clay County.

On January 31, 1954 Mary married David Elmer Deakins who preceded her in death in 2023. Mary worked at RCA in Indianapolis, 7 UP Bottle Company, and Windbreaker, eventually retiring from Columbia Records. Mary and one of her good friends, JoAnn, would often take Turner Bus trips to various destinations. She would often play card games with her neighborhood friends. Mary loved playing bingo and keno. Mary also enjoyed shopping. In later years she traveled with her son David and his family to many states. Mary had four children, and she was a best friend to each of them. Most of all, she enjoyed being a grandma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by, her parents, her husband David, one brother Dudley Whitman, and son-in-law Kent D. Johnson.

Mary is survived by her children, David Deakins (Patty), Sharon Plemen (Bob), Dee Dee Johnson, and Janis Fabbri (David); grandchildren: David A. Deakins, Kimberly Morrison (Ryan), Robert Trey Plemen, Troy Fabbri, Brett Fabbri (Brittanee), and Tony Fabbri (Lyndsey); and 10 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held December 31st from 11 A.M.-1 P.M. at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Avenue in Brazil. A funeral service will begin at 1 P.M. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. To post a note of condolence please visit:
