Mary L. Conner, 93, of Clinton, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, in Noblesville. She was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Clinton, to John and Anna Novak Ballock. She married James L. Conner on Jan. 31, 1942.

She was very active in County Government serving 27 ½ years in the Democrat Party, six years as secretary to the County Commissioners and eight years as Vermillion County Deputy Recorder, elected and served eight years as Vermillion County Recorder and 5 ½ as Vermillion County Assessor, retiring June 31, 1988.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Clinton, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church of Noblesville, 50-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 6653 Clinton, Vermillion County Women's Club, Sacred Heart Women's Club, and former Vermillion Country Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Conner on Feb. 9, 2001; four brothers, William, George, John and Frank; and two sisters, Ann Loukota and Irene Nuyen.

Survivors include her son, Jim W. and his wife Libbie of Noblesville; granddaughter, Paige; grandson, Shayne; great-grandchildren, Rory, Reagen, Cole, Sean and Bo; nephews, Bill Ballock and his wife Jill of Gurnee, Ill., George Ballock and his wife Shirley of Kalamazoo, Mich., John Ballock and his wife Debbie, Steve Ballock and wife of Terre Haute, Ron Ballock and wife of Las Vegas, and Ken Ballock of Denver, John Ballock of Clinton and Tom Ballock of Indiana; nieces, Ruth Ann Swinford of Hillsdale, Mary Ann Gregory of Terre Haute, and Helen Frazier of South Carolina; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at Giovanini Funeral Home, Clinton, with Father Varghese Maliakkal officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart Church, Clinton.
