Brazil, Indiana - BRAZIL - Mary Catherine Foxworthy Bowden, 91, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away on August 20, 2025, at Union Hospital with two of her daughters by her side.
Mary was born in Fontanet, Indiana, to Rosalene (Blair) and George Foxworthy, who preceded her in death. The first of five children and the only daughter, she was a devoted big sister to her four brothers. She attended school in Fontanet and graduated from Fontanet High School in 1951.
On December 20, 1953, Mary married her high school sweetheart, Donald Bowden. Together they shared 72 years of love and devotion. After their marriage, they settled in Brazil, Indiana, where their first three daughters were born. They later lived briefly in California before returning to Indiana in 1963, where their fourth and fifth daughters were born. Mary spent the last 60 years of her life in the same beloved home in Brazil.
Mary was employed as a seamstress at various factories throughout her life, known for her skill, hard work, and steady dedication. At home, with patient and talented hands, she sewed for her family too - school dresses, Sunday best, costumes, and special-occasion outfits - stitching love into every seam.
A faithful member of Otter Creek Church, Mary was a loving and devout Christian. She raised her daughters to love the Lord and taught them by example, leaving a legacy of faith that will live on through her family.
Above all, Mary was a loving Momma to her five daughters and was endlessly proud of each of them. She devoted her life to her family and will be remembered as a cherished wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her home was the heart of countless gatherings, especially Sunday dinners, where family and friends knew they could always count on plenty of good food, laughter, a lively game of euchre, and the warmth of her love.
Mary is survived by her husband of 71 years, Donald; her five daughters: Connie (Jim) Carter of Crawfordsville, Indiana; Diana (Gary) Moore of Springfield, Illinois; Debbie (Rick) Cannon of Brazil, Indiana; Toni (Dave) Wheat of Parker, Colorado; and Dawn (Jason) Treash of Carbon, Indiana; her two brothers, James (Barbara) Foxworthy and Thomas (Alice) Foxworthy of Terre Haute, Indiana; her nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several cherished nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, David Bowden of Lakeland, Florida.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, George (Charlene) Foxworthy and Jerry (Carol) Foxworthy; and her great-granddaughter, Skyla.
She will be dearly missed as the matriarch of the family - the glue who held everyone together and made everyone feel loved.
Funeral services will be held at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 East National Avenue, Brazil, on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 1:00 pm, with burial to follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otter Creek Church.
