Mark Otho Oster Obituary

Mark Otho Oster passed away peacefully at age 82.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Kurt Oster; and his first wife, Nancy Claypool. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Brehm) Oster; four sons, Mark, Otho Jr., Karl Eugene, Bruce Robert and Kurt Joseph; one sister, Wilhelmina (Billie) Young; one granddaughter, Courtney Athena; and one great-grandson, Aris.

He was a graduate of Purdue University (BA), Texas A&M (MS), University of Illinois (Ph.D.) and UCLA (post-doctoral student). He taught all his professional life at Indiana State University (life sciences) until his retirement. He was also the owner of Oster Rental Housing Co. He was an avid bridge player. He was a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Terre Haute. He was a member of Kiwanis. He was avid Scouter and served as scout master for Troop 30 for many years, then on several committees. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family in the Colorado mountains.

The family requests donations be made to Crossroads of America Council Boy Scouts of America or the charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation at noon. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Doddie Stone at the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 1875 South Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute.
