Margie Marie West Obituary

Margie Marie West, 96, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and formerly of Rockville, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019, at Raybrook Manor in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born August 5, 1922, in Stone Bluff, Indiana, to the late Fenton Wildman and Pauline Greve Wildman.

Her husband of 54 years, John West, whom she married August 5, 1949, preceded her in death on August 11, 2002. Survivors include one daughter, Janet K. Hufford of Grand Rapids, Michigan; three grandchildren, Kyle (Adela) of New Paris, Indiana, Sean Hufford of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Stephanie (James) Underwood of Lowell, Michigan; three great-grandchildren, Garrett West Hufford, Josephine Underwood and Abby Underwood; two sisters, Mary (Robert) Klutzke of Wingate, Indiana, and Catherine Hampton of Crawfordsville, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, James, Charles, William and Philo Wildman; and three sisters, Viola Weigle, Ethel Holland and Rena Wildman.

She was a member of the Rockville Christian Church and was a part of the Christian Women's Fellowship group and the Friendship Sunday school class. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxillary Post 1752 and Happy Hours Home Ec Club, and was on the Parke County Fair Board. Marge was a Girl Scout leader for almost ten years, in addition to being neighborhood chairwoman.

She worked at Production Credit Association in the 1940s and was the Parke County deputy treasurer and then acting treasurer in the '70s and '80s. She was honored by Gov. Robert Orr with the Distinguished Hoosier Award in 1985.

She and John bowled many years on the Rockville Senior League. She enjoyed, sewing, crafts and quilting. She volunteered for many groups; her favorite was selling poppies for the VFW and delivering daffodils to auxiliary members in nursing homes. Her favorite thing in the world was being Mam Mam to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2019, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville, with the Rev. Don Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Gooch Funeral Home.
