TERRE HAUTE - Margaret Marie Ames passed away on January 2, 2021 at home. She was born in 1939, in Coal Bluff, Indiana, to Hannah and Levert O'Neal. She graduated from Fontanet High School in 1957 and went on to work for Columbia House for 36 years and for Providence Medical Group for 13 years.
She was a member of the Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, where she displayed her love of music by playing the organ and singing in the choir. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, most recently of the Xi Beta Chi chapter, for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Elvin and Bill O'Neal, George Nelson, and Ted and Bob O'Neal. She is survived by her brother, Jim O'Neal; sisters-in-law, Reva O'Neal and Mary Ellen Nelson; as well as by her children, Kelly, Julie (Kurt) and Michael; and by her much-loved grandchildren, John Erec (Anna), Richard, and Sean; and her beloved great-granddaughter, Zoe.
Margaret and the family would like to thank Angie of Heart to Heart Hospice, who took such good care of her in her final months.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer.
