BRAZIL - Mack Gene McCullough, 92, of Brazil, passed away at home, the morning of January 14, 2025.

He was born on December 28, 1932, in Cory, IN, the son of Mack and Hattie Stoops McCullough. He graduated from Cory High School, Class of 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years and then returned to Clay County.

Mack met Caroline Butt after returning from the service and they began their relationship that spanned over 68 years. They were united in marriage on August 17, 1956.

Together, Mack and Caroline began their dairy farm. They enjoyed the work of the farm, with the daily care of the land and the cows. They could never have prepared for the outcome of the cows and land being affected by chemicals, resulting in the cows dying and the land being unsafe. After a ten-year battle to combat these effects, Mack had to leave farming, and they made the move into Brazil.

Mack later worked for Bob Romas at the concrete plant and later still, he enjoyed working at Oak Ridge Golf Course, learning course maintenance and the game of golf. Mack was always a person that was a hands-on learner and continued to learn as he aged. He was an avid reader of different periods in history, most especially, World War II.

Mack was someone that appreciated diversity, equality among races and gender, and was respectful of the care of our environment and animals. Stewardship of the land and resources was something Mack took seriously.

Survivors include, wife, Caroline (Butt) McCullough; son, Wade McCullough; several nieces, nephews and extended family; and their close friend, Sara Pliskin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Hattie; siblings, Marjorie, Doris, Robert, Kathryn, and Jack.

The decision was made to donate his body to science. No services will be held. Burial of his ashes will be in the future at Cory-Zion- McCullough Cemetery.
