Lanny Ray Snow
On June 24, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Margaret Jane Lawhorn Snow of Fontanet.
Lanny graduated from Fontanet High School in 1961. He promptly enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country honorably from 1961 to 1965. He felt fortunate to have traveled to many countries around the world and was actively involved in the Bay of Pigs Crisis.
He was employed at C.F. Industries for 22 years during which he worked his way up to the position of shift supervisor. When the company closed in 1987, Lanny took a position at Bemis in the converting department. He retired from Bemis in 2009.
From an early age Lanny loved being outside. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and woodworking. He loved his garden and working with his hands. He was an avid reader and loved history. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and experienced many adventures together and with their family. After his retirement Lanny's illnesses made it very difficult for them to travel alone. During this time, they cherished vacations with their close friends and neighbors of 46 years, Betty and Fred Gum.
Lanny was known by all to be very honest and loyal. He was generous with his time and abilities, spending a significant portion of his life helping his family, friends, and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Agnes Snow; two brothers-in-law, Mark Pflueger and Clifford Anderson; two nieces, Leslie Pflueger and Melanie Brookshire; and a great-nephew, Justin Snow.
Lanny was survived by his wife, Margaret; his three children, Michael Snow and wife Susan, Mark Snow and wife Kirsten, and Melissa Snow McKanna and husband Jay; eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, Megan Pate (Josh Weeks), Katlin Snow (Adam Nunley), Zachary Snow (Kathrine Bauer), Gwendolyn Snow (Adam Martin), Kristopher Snow (Shannon Clegg), Steve Snow, Heath Daugherty (Cyara Bracken), Alainna Daugherty, Cassidy McKanna Briscoe (Blair), and Caleb McKanna (Miranda); two great-grandchildren, Anna Weeks and Rowan Daugherty; three siblings, Marion Gale Snow and wife Myra, Jane Snow O'Dell and husband Melvin, and Cindy Snow Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Lanny's family would like to thank their friends and relatives for all of the support given during this difficult time. We would like to extend a special thank-you to Sara Norris, PCA; Mary Hancock, RN; and Sarah Higgins, RN, from Great Lakes Caring Hospice, who provided exceptional care and support to our entire family.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the funeral home, with Pastor Keith McIntyre officiating.
