TERRE HAUTE - Joyce M. Bailey, age 93, of Terre Haute passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. She was born in Wheatland, Indiana on November 19, 1930 to Royce H. Reel and Annabelle Valin Reel.

She was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School class of 1948. Joyce retired from JC Penney with 31 years of service.

Joyce was very proud that she attained her pilot's license and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the Gideons Auxiliary and the El-Shaddai Emmaus Community. She loved her cats and liked to sew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John A. Bailey, Sr.; a daughter, Nancy Kay Johnson; and three sisters, Sue Reel, Shirley Clawson and Anita Oswald.

Surviving are a daughter, J. Anna Whitman; two sons, John A. (Sherry) Bailey Jr. and Doug (Mitzi) Bailey; a son-in-law, Don Johnson; a brother, Jerry Reel; grandchildren, Amy Sparks, Paul Cornwell, Erin Edington, Andrea Johnson, Marie Knifley, and Jerry McKinney; thirteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 1 PM at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, Pastor Larry Branham officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until time of services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rose- lawn Memorial Park.
