John Wayne Nevins Obituary

Terre Haute, IN - TERRE HAUTE - John Wayne Nevins, age 80, passed away peacefully at home.

He was born August 10, 1945 in Rosedale, Indiana to Russell Alden Nevins and Dorothy Bernice Ames Nevins.

He retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in the class of 1963. Immediately after graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1963-1967 and was a Vietnam Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Larry; and one sister, Sara.

John is survived by his longtime companion, Karen Ketner; and daughters, Melissa Dreher and her husband, Mike, Angela Unger and her husband, Jeff; as well as one granddaughter, Carson and her husband, Patrick.

John was a life member of the Marine Corps League, VFW Post 1127, and a member of the American Legion Post 104.

John loved playing golf with his buddies and lifelong friend, Satch.

Cremation has been chosen. There will be a short military service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 6, 2026 with food and refreshments to follow. This will be held at the American Legion Post 104 located at 2690 Fort Harrison Road in Terre Haute, Indiana.
