Mary "Joan" Mains, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at Springhill Village.
She was born on July 5, 1929, to William and Mary (Garrigan) Ashton.
Joan was a graduate of Wiley High School. She was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church for over 20 years. Joan loved raising her family. She enjoyed camping and traveling. She liked to swim. Joan made hand-dipped candles and spun her own yarn. She was talented at quilting and crocheting.
She is survived by her children, Stanley Mains and wife Melinda, Jeffrey Mains and wife Kathy, and Karen Barnaby, all of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Caitlin Barnaby, Sean Barnaby (Michelle), Jennifer Lindsey (B.J.), Sarah Mains, Shanna Strole (Dustin), Kacey Poe (Josh) and Brodie Mains; great-grandchildren, Kailey, Brooklyn, Parker, Ellah, Emiah, Eislea, Braedon, Ryan, Gabriel, Lily, Darien, Draven, Garrett, Cassie and Remington; and Pepper the cat.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Burton "Burt" Mains; a grandson, Matthew Mains; and a brother, Tim Ashton.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dennis Ticen officiating. Joan will be laid to rest next to her husband in Roselawn Memorial Park. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at:
