Jason Gropp Obituary
Carmel - Jason Edward Gropp, age 49, was born in Terre Haute, IN on April 19, 1977. He died at his home in Carmel, IN on July 24, 2026 of cholangiocarcinoma. He was first diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in 2013 just after his children were born. He received curative treatment but the cancer returned in March of 2025. He was tenacious in his pursuit of treatment and clinical trials in order to prolong his time with his beloved family.
He is survived by his wife Emily Jungers Gropp, his children Margaret and Oliver Gropp, his parents E. Eugene and Therese Gropp, his sisters Angel (Mark) Rain and Heather Rogers, half-brother Grant (Ginny) Munroe, his nieces and nephew Emma and Leo Rain and Rachael Rogers. He was preceded in death by daughter Lauren Gropp.
Jason grew up in Terre Haute where he attended Sacred Heart Catholic school and graduated in 1995 from Terre Haute North Vigo High School. In 2003 he earned a BS in Finance from Indiana State University. He and Emily met at their 10-year high school reunion where he charmed her with his sense of humor and continued to make her laugh every day thereafter. They married May 5, 2007 in Terre Haute, IN and settled in Carmel, IN. Jason always said that Emily was the best thing that ever happened to him. He worked for many years in information technology at Somerset CPAs, now known as CBiz. He was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Carmel where he was drawn by the community's warmth and inclusivity.
Jason's hobbies and interests over the years include cycling and photography, a deep knowledge of audio systems and wide appreciation for music. He was a lifelong audiophile, whether he was sitting in his home listening chair surrounded by speakers, attending live concerts, playing the role of DJ for family dance parties and on road trips with his young children. He was a talented photographer and chronicled his children's long NICU journey with daily photographs, outlining their setbacks and successes for their friends and family.
He was beloved for his wit and his ability to put others at ease. He had a calm way of making people feel that everything would work out fine, and if it didn't, at least it would make for a great story! He approached life with curiosity, playfulness and a sense of adventure. He relished holiday traditions, especially Christmas. He enjoyed visiting the farmers market, area festivals, local parks and new restaurants. Jason loved traveling with his family, and returning to Holland, Michigan was a favorite summer ritual. More than anything, he deeply loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed running remote control cars with his son and creating elaborate personalities for his daughter's stuffed animals. His playful spirit will live on in his children and he will be deeply missed.
