Janice Marie Persinger
Janice M. Persinger, 81, of Center Point, passed away suddenly November 7, 2019 at 1:38 p.m. at her residence. She was born November 2, 1938 in Clay County, the middle daughter of Marvin and Mary Morris Spear. She graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1957. Janice was united in marriage to Ralph Persinger on August 24, 1958. Together they raised their five children in southern Clay County.
Later in life, Janice pursued further education and in 1978 she obtained her bachelor's degree in science with her Registered Nurse Degree from ISU. She first worked at Union Hospital, then she began working at Clay County Hospital for several years. She last worked for the Veteran's Administration providing home dialysis for over ten years. She was also one to always help with aging family members and caring for extended family.
She and Ralph enjoyed spending winter months around the Bradenton, Florida area. They attended the United Methodist Church of Bradenton while there and the Cory Zion Church when back in Clay County.
Janice was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 80. She served as Past Matron, District Deputy and as Grand Page. She was a member for over 50 years. She was also creative and was a member of the China Painters Club and was an active participant in the Saline City Labor Day Picnic committee.
She absolutely loved Christmas and enjoyed picking out just the right gift for each of her family. She was a loving wife, mom and grandma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mary Spears; son in law Jack Oberholtzer and grandson Benjamin Oberholtzer.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Ralph Persinger; children, Pam Oberholtzer of Brazil, Penny Cooprider (Chip) of Center Point, Tim Persinger (Michele) of Clay City, Robin Swalls (Alan) of Brazil, and Andy Persinger (Angie) of Clay City; 9 grandchildren, Eric Oberholtzer (Bradi), Ryan Persinger (Katie), Calvin Curtis (Stacy), Daniel Curtis (Shearea), Seth Curtis (Amber), Tanner Persinger (Brandi), Hunter Collins (Trisha), Korey Utterback (Nate), Mason Persinger (Laci); 19 great-grandchildren, Gracie, Mayven, Ethan, Rylan, Maelee, Josie, Cody, Kyler, Nolan, Kinsley, Cynthia, Kealynn, Izzy, Addy, Elijah, River, Toria, Oliva, Avery; sisters, Judy Payne of Rockville, and Joyce Seabury, Cougar, WA; nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 with Eastern Star Services at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be Wednesday prior to services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Toys for Tots or Shop with a Cop. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
