Janette Marie Peebles Obituary

TERRE HAUTE - Janette Marie Peebles (Burns), 79, passed away on October 10, 2019, at Springhill Village in Terre Haute, Indiana, after a long illness. She was born in Staunton, Indiana, on August 23, 1940, to the late Kenneth and Alice (Russell) Burns.

She graduated from Staunton High School in 1958, and worked for Columbia Records and Sony until she semi-retired and decided to travel west. After visiting a number of states, she settled first in Houston and then in Galveston, Texas, working as an executive secretary for several companies.

Janette loved to be adventurous and liked to try different activities such as scuba diving and skeet shooting. She was a volunteer for the suicide prevention hotline and later volunteered for an alligator preserve in Florida. Jan enjoyed being with her family and friends, but loved her independence.

She was preceded in death by her brother, David E. Burns, in April of this year.

Survivors Include a son, Joseph Peebles Bennett (Travis); sisters, Mary Ann (Burns) Weaver (Larry) and Sharon (Burns) Buell-Miller (Dave); and sister-in-law, Peggy Foster.

Janette was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at 7:00 P.M., at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil, Indiana, with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating. The family will accept friends for visitation from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to a veterans' organization or animal shelter of your choice.
