James Eric Strain Obituary
James Eric Strain, 82, passed away Sept. 18, 2018, at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice. He was born Jan. 29, 1936, in Greenup, Ill., to Leo "Shorty" Strain and Florence Bishop Strain.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tracy Brinkmoeller; and half sister, Dorothy McDonald.
James is survived by his wife of 44 years, Donna [Paine] Strain; daughter, Sandra Wood and her husband Bill; sons, Greg Fisher and his wife Kit and Brad Strain and his wife Melanie; brother, Terry Strain and his wife Mary Lou; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was an electrical maintenance supervisor at Hercules/AET for 27 years. He was one of the first 100 employees hired and helped build the plant. His career began Dec. 23, 1968, and he retired Oct. 2, 1995. He enjoyed gardening, making wine, fishing and was an avid Cub fan.
Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Cremation was chosen. Roselawn Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
The family kindly requests donations be made in Jim's memory to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care, 400 8th Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47804. Special thanks to the caring and compassionate nurses and support staff for providing wonderful care to Jim during his final hours.
