James A. Helmick
TERRE HAUTE - James Alonzo "Meathead" Helmick, 69, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020 at his home. He was born on June 9, 1950, in Terre Haute to John C. and Kathryn (Grayless) Helmick.
James is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rebecca (Chrisman) Helmick of Terre Haute; children, Rob Kelley and wife Lorrie Leen, Melinda Wright and husband Don, and Lorrie Ann Orten and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Devan Helmick and fiancée Jacklynn Mullikin, Chris Wright, Colton Wright, Andrew Kelley and wife Leah, Derek Kelley and wife Mandy, Alainie Randolph and husband Tyler, Aliyah Orten, and Kobe Orten; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Andrew and Rosemary Chrisman.
James proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from the City of Terre Haute Street Department. He was a member of American Legion Post 328 and VFW Post 972. He was a member and Past Commander of Amvets Post 2 and Vigo County Veterans. James was also a member and Past Locale Chef of Voiture 40 & 8 and State Grande Chef du Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Graveside services will be private. Due to current Federal guidelines concerning mass gatherings during this time, there will be a strict limit of ten people permitted in the funeral home for visitation at all times. There may be a delay and increased wait times during visiting hours. We kindly ask that visitors maintain a safe distance from all other guests and staff and practice proper handwashing technique prior to and upon leaving the funeral home.
