James E. Benning (Jim)
November 2, 1939 - May 4, 2025
LIVONIA, Mich. - James "Jim" Benning, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025 at the age of 85. Jim will be remembered for his unmatched work ethic, deep love for his family, and gift for storytelling.
After graduating from Paul Schulte High School in 1959, Jim served in the United States Navy.
He began his civilian career at the Anaconda Aluminum Company in Terre Haute, Indiana. While there, he also served as vice president of the union - a role he held with great pride and passion. His leadership and dedication led him into a new chapter in human resources at Arco Metals.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ellen Benning; his children, Donna (John) Gill, Debra (Kevin) Donegan, Robert (Julie) Benning, Jamie (Robert) Bieganski, and Sheila (Mark) Harrington; his twin brother Joseph (Nancy) Benning III; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Joseph Benning and Anne Reginia (Downs) Benning.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 10am until 11am with a funeral service beginning at 11am at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville, Mich. He will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia, Mich., following the service.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Orders placed in:
January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
