George Lee Mitchell, 73, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away at 7:36 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, in Paris, Illinois. He was the former owner and operator of Mitchell & Son Contracting of Terre Haute, and later worked for a number of years as a supervisor for Center City Building Complex.

He was born June 21, 1943, in Terre Haute, the son of the late Russell Eugene and Genevieve Irene (Shanner) Mitchell. He married Pamala D. Coverstone on Nov. 19, 1966, in Paris, and she survives.

Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Jean Rose (Bill) Hewitt of Terre Haute; a brother-in-law, Jim Huxford of Paris; nephews, Jim (Tammy) Huxford Jr. and family of Paris, Jarrod DeVillez of Terre Haute, Joe DeVillez (Summer Owens) and family of Richmond, Kentucky, and Shane (Robie) Huxford-Wayne and family of Aurora, Illinois; and extended family members, Jack Morgan of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Sharon Hope, Dawn Brattian and Bobby (Kimmie) Judson, all of Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sue Huxford.

Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Terre Haute, and was a talented woodworker.

For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Paul Warner Animal Rescue of Paris.

At his request, all services will be private. Entombment will be private in Roselawn Mausoleum in Terre Haute. Templeton Funeral Home of Paris is in charge of arrangements.
