Geneva Joanne Thompson Obituary

CARBON-Joanne Thompson, 89, of Carbon, Ind., passed away at noon Friday, April 3, 2020 at Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton. She was a hairdresser and a school bus driver for Southwest Parke Community School Corporation. She was born February 22, 1931 in Parke County to the late Fred Jackman, Sr. and Gladys White Jackman.

Her husband of 68 years, Norris E. Thompson whom she married June 22, 1950 in Chillicothe, Ohio preceded her in death August 22, 2018. Survivors include, one daughter, Linda (David) Williams of Rosedale; son-in-law, Jack Hooker of Carbon; four grandchildren, Carrie (Jason) Routhier, Randy (Shelly) Williams, Sarah (Jake) Jones and Brandy (Stoney) Fisher; eight great-grandchildren, Dahlia Routhier, Amelia Routhier, Finnegan Jones, Molly Jones, Nora Fisher, Haddie Fisher, Waylon Fisher and Kade Williams; siblings, Phyllis (Wayne) West, Larry (Sue) Jackman, Mary Chaney, Alice Waldridge; sister-in-law, Wilma Nicoson.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sheila Marie Thompson, April of 1958, daughter, Diane Hooker on August 25, 2015 and siblings, Ruth Anne Pyle, Odetta Witty and Fred Jackman, Jr.

She was a 1950 graduate of Bridgeton High School and a 1961 graduate of Milady Beauty Academy. She enjoyed working around the farm, gardening and canning.

Due to current health concerns and public safety, private graveside services will be held at Clear Run Cemetery in Bridgeton with the Rev. Perry Mager officiating. Memorials should friends so desire, may be made to The Hospice Group or Elara Hospice in her memory. Arrangements entrusted to Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, Rosedale.
