Fred M. Mitch Wineland of Marshall, IL, formerly of Chrisman, IL, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023 at Clearvista Lake Health Campus in Indianapolis, IN after his 5-year struggle with dementia.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1933 in Elmwood, IL, the son of Mitch and Fern Wineland. A member of US Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #157 for 68 years, Mitch retired from the trade in 1995. He was liked by several, but respected by all.
His wife of 60 years, Cora Rae Wineland, preceded him in death. Surviving are a daughter, Cyndie Wineland of San Antonio; a son, Rob (Cathi) Wineland of Indianapolis; and his precious granddaughters and partners in crime, Abigail RaeAnn Wineland of Indianapolis and Alissa Catherine Wineland of Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall, IL, Bloomfield Masonic Lodge and a Past Master, The Scottish Rite Northern Masonic District Valley of Danville, IL, the American Legion and Post Commander of Chrisman, IL, and active in the VFW of Marshall. He was a graduate of Macomb, IL, High School.
He proudly served in the US Army 1952-1954. Mutch also honorably served as Mayor of the city of Chrisman, IL, for 4 years.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, at 11 AM CDT at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall, IL. Visitation will begin at 10 AM CDT prior the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Scholarship Fund VFW Post #5975 Dow Stepp Memorial, 112 N. 5th St., Marshall, IL 62441.
