ROCKVILLE-Dorothy Jean Smith, 95, of Rockville, Indiana passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 in her residence. She was a retired legal secretary for John B. McFaddin. She was born July 20, 1926 in Clinton, Indiana to the late Willis B. Pawley and Elva B. Warner Pawley. Her husband of 42 years, Donald Cole Smith whom she married November 30, 1948 preceded her in death July 4, 1990. Survivors include, two sons, Chris (Lee Ann) Smith of Roanoke, Indiana and Jeff Smith of Dennison, Illinois; one daughter, Michaela Smith of Rockville; four grandchildren, Stefanie Pickett, Blythe Vining, Zachary Smith and Nathan Smith and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Pawley and one sister, Wilma Hoover. She was a 1944 graduate of Montezuma High School and a graduate of Indiana Business College. She was an active member of Rockville First United Methodist Church and sang in the choir; she was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Parke County Concert Band, Crawfordsville Community Band and Terre Haute Community Band where she played the baritone. She was known throughout the area for her piano and tap-dancing skills and continued well into her 90's performing at nursing homes. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, at the First United Methodist Church at 128 N Market Street in Rockville, with Paster Jon Overbey officiation, inurnment will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville. Memorial visitation is from 11:00 am-1:00 p.m. Friday at Rockville First United Methodist Church.
