Carbon, Indiana - David E. Milner, 89, of Carbon, Indiana, passed away on July 5, 2025, following an extended illness.

David was born on February 26, 1936, in Parke, County, Indiana, the son of Anson Richard "Si" and Mary L. (Mitchell) Milner. He graduated from Van Buren High School with the class of 1954. On May 27, 1955, he married Dorothy Smith. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

David worked for Shell Oil, in Zionsville before beginning his career at Public Service Indiana "PSI". There he worked as a substation mechanic, retiring after 30 years of service, in 1996. He also shod horses for many around the area.

In his younger years, David enjoyed square dancing with his wife Dorothy, and competitively pulling ponies. More recently, David enjoyed raccoon, rabbit, turkey, and deer hunting, and raising, riding, and showing horses. He was a big supporter of his kids and grandkids sporting and extracurricular activities. David was an avid IU basketball fan and always enjoyed March Madness tournament.

David was an announcer for horse shows with the Clay County Horseman's Association and Clay County 4-H Horse and Pony shows. He was also instrumental in establishing the horse barn, arena, and the announcers stand at the Clay County 4-H fairgrounds.

In addition to his parents Si and Mary Milner, David was preceded in death by 3 sons: David A. "Andy" Milner, Ronald A. Milner, and Jeffrey D. Milner; siblings: Thelma Thomas, Marie Milner, and John Milner.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Milner; daughter Mary Ann Thompson (Brad); grandchildren: Jason Milner (Brittany), Wes Milner (Angie), Wade Milner (Bryttani), Kyle Thompson (Erin), Ryan Thompson (Abby), Seth Thompson, Carli (K.J.) Lowe, and Whitney Milner (Justin Bryant); 13 great-grandchildren; and a sisters-in-law Dorothy I. Milner and Gayla VanHorn; brother-in-law Darrell Smith (Jana); as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be at Lawson - Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 4 PM until 8 PM. Services will be held on Friday, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Kenny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
