Terre Haute, Indiana - TERRE HAUTE - David Marter, 80, of Terre Haute Indiana, passed away peacefully, at home on June 14, 2025.

David was born on March 31, 1945, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Louis and Dorothy (Tweedy) Marter. David went to St. Patrick School and studied at St. Meinrad Seminary before graduating from Schulte High School in 1963.

David was given the opportunity to be one of the chosen employees to open the first McDonald's in Terre Haute at 7th and Poplar. As an employee of McDonald's, he logged 101 hours in one week at 75¢ an hour. Shortly after, he was employed by Stran-Steel for approximately 17 years before the facility closed. He was then employed by Ivy Hill Printing for 29 years, retiring after a long and dedicated career. Concurrently, he served in the Army Reserve, which he joined in 1966, with continuous service between branches, later retired as a Technical Sergeant from the Air National Guard at Hulman Field.

David was a "do-it-yourself" person, well before internet and online videos were available to help people "figure things out." He would rather reverse engineer something and save money, than pay someone else to do it for him, a life skill he unknowingly instilled in his two sons. From an early age, David's passion was American muscle cars. In his later years of life, his focus was on the Chevrolet Corvette. David was a dedicated, lifelong Catholic and a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church, where his duties included taking up the collection.

David is survived by his two sisters: Barbara Dominick and Susan (James) Keegan, two sons: Christopher (Eva) Marter and Charles Marter (Angela); grandchildren: Jamie and Chris Marter II; great-grandchildren: Landon and Briley Evans, Camdon and Ethan Davenport, and Eva Marter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Standcomb Marter DeBord, and later, Connie Sue Marter.

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Sacred Heart Church or Catholic Charities of Terre Haute, IN.

According to David's wishes, he will be cremated. Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Monday, July 28, 2025 at Roselawn Memorial Park, 7500 North Clinton Street, Terre Haute, IN. Services will be at 12:00 P.M. with Father Darvin Winters officiating. Burial will be conducted directly after.
