Greencastle, Indiana - Darrel Lee Thomas, 80, of Greencastle, Indiana, passed away on May 13, 2026.

He was born on January 21, 1946, in Oakland, California, to Harry and Mildred (Armpriester) Thomas.

Darrel was a proud United States Navy Veteran. He dedicated his life to his family and the citizens of Putnam County, Indiana. Darrel was a recipient of the State of Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash Valley Award. He was a former County Councilman member and president. Darrel was currently serving as a member of the City Council.

Darrel was a 4-H Hall of Fame Inductee in 2021 and was a 10 year 4-H Member. He also served on the Park and Recreation Board and held membership with NARFE. Darrel worked for 31 years as a 4-H Extension Agent for Putnam County. He talks about his 4-H kids often.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Diana R. (Ross) Thomas.

Darrel is survived by his daughters Lisa Chadd (Mike) and Kara Hazlett (Matt); grandchildren Josie Hazlett, Kayla Brown (Zach, Addyson, Kyndra and Clayton) and Rachel Chad (Blake); great-granddaughter Bexlie; and siblings Cindy Martin (Bernie) and Elaine Jacone.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 1:00p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 404 Judson Drive, Greencastle, Indiana. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday, from 10:00a.m. until service time.
