Darla Jo Barrett
TERRE HAUTE - Darla Jo Barrett, 61, passed away the morning of October 5, 2019, at her home in Silver Birch Assisted Living, surrounded by her loving family after a battle with cancer.
Darla was the fifth-born daughter of Lucille and Edsil Barrett.
She is survived by her son Jeffrey Braxton Barrett; her loving granddaughter McKenzie Barrett; sisters Beverly Smith (Mike), Linda Rodgers and Vickey Costello (Harold); nieces Beth Reed (Tom) and Kelley Hunter (Brian); nephews Swade Summers, Mike Rodgers and Mike Summers; great-niece and nephew Shelby Reed and Brayton Reed; and special friend Mary Fell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Rita Barrett and Sherri Marshall; and nephew infant Daniel Perrel.
Darla loved art and painted the things she loved. But her great love was creating art with her granddaughter McKenzie and spending time with her family.
Private family services were held at the beautiful Highland Lawn Chapel.
A special thank-you to the staff at Silver Birch and Hospice, Life's Journey.
As per Darla's wishes, she generously donated her body to the Anatomical Education Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine. This gift will contribute significantly to the advancement of health science education in the state of Indiana. Those like Darla who decide to bequeath bodies to the health sciences have made a significant contribution that benefits the quality of life and care for the living.
