Terre Haute, IN - TERRE HAUTE - Connie Owens Motz, 89, passed away on June 12, 2026, in Terre Haute, Indiana.

She was born on September 2, 1936, in Huntington, Indiana, the daughter of Lawrence and Audrey Rankin Owens, a great-granddaughter of Archangel Lafontaine Engleman and a member of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. Connie attended Wabash High School where she played the oboe and was drum majorette, and graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1954.

Connie leaves her husband, Richard Motz, with whom she celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary on November 24, 2025; and 4 children, Rick Motz (Karolyn), Robin Head (Terry), Randy Motz (Jeanne) and David Motz (Neal). She dearly loved her 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Marty Winne Owens, stepfather Dwayne Eckert, and daughter-in-law Kelly McCombs Motz.

Connie was an active member of Oregon Baptist Church for 69 years and served as a Sunday school teacher and church secretary, and sang in the choir. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed crochet and handicrafts, and camping and fishing with her family. Connie was in three Crest toothpaste TV commercials with her family in the 1960s and was a Girl Scout troop leader. She worked in appliance sales at Montgomery Ward's and was a teacher's aide at Sarah Scott Junior High School. In retirement she volunteered at the Dobbs Park Native American Museum and at the hospital. She also loved '40s music and crossword puzzles.

Visitation for Connie will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at DeBaun Funeral Home from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Service will begin at 2:00 pm with burial to follow at Prairie Creek Westlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Connie's name to Oregon Baptist Church.
