SEATTLE - Commander Lois A. Andrews, 98, of Seattle, Washington, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021.
Lois was born in Merom on March 12, 1923 to Samuel Augustus Andrews and Margaret Virginia Lutz Andrews.
A Gill Township native, Lois was a graduate of Merom High School. She received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University in nursing education and her master's degree in nursing administration from the University of Washington. She was a lifelong member of the Merom United Methodist Church.
Lois enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, serving as a nurse to both Navy and Marine troops. She retired in 1970 as personnel director for the Navy Nurse Corps Bureau of Medicine and Surgery in Washington, D.C., having attained the rank of Commander.
She retired to Seattle, but always considered Merom her home, and provided endowed support for her beloved community.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Sam, and her sister Reah Gettinger.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 11 AM at Merom Cemetery, with Pastor Erich Blevins officiating.
