Cleola Short, 77, of Hillsdale, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at her residence.

She was born March 2, 1943, in Newport, IN, to Ray D. Russell and Esther K. Johnson Kinderman.

She attended Newport High School. She was previously employed at the County Home in Newport in the '60s, the Parke County Nursing Home in the '80s, and the Vermillion County Hospital in the '90s as laundry aid and materials management.

On January 31, 1969, she married Ronnie Short in Newport, IN, and he preceded her in death on July 22, 2020.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Shirley Miller of Crowley, LA, and Jackie Roderick of Newport, IN.

Survivors include her son, Rex Allen (Melissa Sue) Short of Hillsdale; granddaughter, Alexis Marie (Dustin) Doss of Rockville; a sister, Carolyn Peer of West Lebanon; a brother, Robert Henry of Newport; 2 great-granddaughters, Emmalyn and Callie Doss; a stepsister, Judy Henry West of Brazil, IN; and a stepbrother, Ted Henry of Champaign, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 10 am to 1 pm at Brown-Mack Funeral Home in Montezuma. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with the Rev. Keith McIntyre officiating and burial will follow at Helts Prairie Cemetery in Hillsdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations made to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley in Cleola's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
