Clay City, Indiana - CLAY CITY - Chloe (Barrett) Rhodes, 95, of Clay City passed away January 10, 2026. She was born in Cory to Walter Barrett and Hester (Modesitt) Barrett.
She married Max Rhodes on August 22, 1953 who was killed in 1988 in a train and truck accident.
Chloe graduated from Cory High School and attended Terre Haute Commercial College. She worked at State Auto Insurance Company in Indianapolis.
Chloe enjoyed cooking and gardening. She loved to piece quilts and she loved St. Louis Cardinals baseball and also IU basketball games. Chloe was a longtime member of St. Peter's Community Church, formerly First United Church of Christ.
She is survived by twins Cindy Rhodes and Diana Jackson (Brad), Roger Rhodes (LeAnn), twins Vicki Wilson (Bruce) and Rusty Rhodes; also eight grandchildren, Kaleb Jackson (Ashley), Kasey Jackson, Brandon Wilson (Andrea), Lindsey Sullivan (Michael), Loni Rhodes, Kyler Rhodes (Kylie Wertz), Koby Rhodes, and Kambryn Rhodes; and seven great-grandchildren, Norman and Mason Wilson, Nora and Margo Jackson, Camille and Corynna Jackson, and Paxyn Rhodes.
Chloe was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and twin brother, Jerry Barrett; and sister, Gretchen Griffith.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 14 from 3-7 P.M. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East 8th Street in Clay City. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 15 at 11 A.M. at St. Peter's Community Church, 6414 South County Road 300 East, Clay City. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter's Community Church.
