TERRE HAUTE - Charles E. "Pete" Peffley, 92, of Terre Haute passed away at 5:30 pm Monday, August 3, 2020 at Westminster Health and Rehab in Terre Haute. He was born in Terre Haute on October 13, 1927 to Charles A. Peffley and Opal Harmless Peffley.

His wife of 66 years, Mary F. Deeter Peffley, whom he married September 27, 1952, preceded him in death January 31, 2019. Survivors include his brother, Robert R. Peffley and wife Kathleen of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Bridgeton Methodist Church while living in Bridgeton and after moving to Terre Haute joined the First Baptist Church of Terre Haute.

Pete was postmaster of Bridgeton for several years. He and his wife owned and operated the Bridgeton Country Store and Peffley Farm Supply.

Indy Car racing was his favorite sport and during the month of May he could be found at Indianapolis Motor Speedway visiting old friends and enjoying the racing cars. He attended 60 consecutive racing dates including rain dates. He was a life member of USAC, Indy Car Nation, Old Timber Club, National Associating of Retired Federal Employees, Hospital Mended Hearts Visitors and Parke County, Inc.

Private graveside services will be held at Clear Run Cemetery in Bridgeton with the Rev. Perry Mager officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Gooch Funeral Home, Rockville. Online condolences may be shared at:
