Charles Joseph "Charlie" David, 80, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at his residence with his family and children at his side. Charlie was born in Terre Haute, on Oct. 5, 1936, the son of the late Edwin and Lutefa David.

He graduated from Gerstmeyer High School, served in the Army Reserve and retired from PSI Energy, retired after 27 years of service. Mr. Davis was a umpire for baseball and softball in Terre Haute from the 1960s until the 1980s and was on the board of directors at Miss Softball America. He enjoyed watching football, baseball, softball and his favorite was college basketball. Charlie also enjoyed to feed his squirrel on his front porch who came to visit every day, and had a special hobby of scratching lottery tickets.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Monroe; and sisters, Betty and Miriam.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Linda S. (Blackburn) David; daughters, Becky David and partner Amy Darkis, Libby Herrberg, Amy and her husband Joe Rogers; sons, Bo Downey and partner Judy Newlin, Chad Downey and partner Brian McCalaster; nephews, Ed David and wife Sue, Jim David and wife Dorothy; niece, Monica Moore; grandchildren, Britni Lang and Jacob Herrberg; two great-grandchildren; mother and father-in-law, Helen and Duane Buntain; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Missy and Gary Boblitt; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dutch and Nikki Blackburn; several cousins; and special friend, Bobby Ellis.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. George Orthodox Church, 1900 South 4th St., with the Rev. Father Paul Fuller officiating and the Rev. Father Deacon Elias Corey assisting. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 until 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.
